A conference for all involved in welcoming Hong Kongers to Britain to reflect on the experiences so far and the challenges ahead.
The arrival of Hong Kongers could be one of the most important British migration stories of this decade – and an opportunity to reset how we think about making migration and integration work in the UK.
The Welcoming Hong Kongers Annual Conference brings together those involved in welcoming to share insights from the first six months of the Welcome Programme and inform future work.
The conference will address what can be learned about Hong Kong welcoming in the UK and celebrate the work so far. It will explore the practical opportunities and challenges for next year, as well as strengthening regional and national networks amongst those working to welcome new arrivals. We will share and discuss the findings of new research on the settlement and integration of Hong Kongers in the UK, conducted by the Welcoming Committee for Hong Kongers and British Future. Finally, the event will consider what actions and insights to take forward to expand and develop the welcoming agenda in the UK.
This is an event for all practitioners and those working to support integration and welcoming efforts across the UK, as well as individuals interested in its development and policymakers, including those specifically helping Hong Kongers and those with broader remits keen to learn from this.
Panel 1: Hong Kong Integration - What has worked so far?
How well Hong Kongers are settling into diverse areas of life in the UK, including employment, education and social life.
Panel 2: Spreading the gains of Hong Kong migration across the nations and regions - Where do Hong Kongers settle and why?
Discussing the priorities of Hong Kongers when choosing an area to settle down in, and ways different parts of the UK can attract more BNO migration.
Panel 3: Building a Welcoming Agenda - What next for Hong Kongers welcoming agenda in Britain?
Looking to broaden engagement of civic society, employers and educators in welcoming Hong Kongers and others to the UK going forwards.
